With around 15,000 students, Fachhochschule Dortmund is one of the ten largest universities of applied sciences in Germany. There are 8 faculties at the university, namely, Applied Social Sciences, Architecture, Design, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Business Studies. The degree courses are geared towards providing an application-oriented education. Around 70 study programs offer Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Studies and Social Sciences as well as Architecture and Design.

As a university of applied sciences, Fachhochschule Dortmund has a strong profile in advanced research and industry transfer, with third party funding of approximately 11 million Euro annually. Established international partnerships enable students to acquire global skills. Fachhochschule Dortmund has 151 partner universities in 50 countries on 5 continents. These partnerships significantly drive research collaborations as well.
